Ellie Kate & Emma Rose: September 2011

August 17th we arrived at Northside Hospital 10:30 am to check in for my schduled C-Section. I was sent to Pre-Op where they were a little confused about why I was there. Turns out the hospital had on record that I had already delivered my baby!!! A nurse admitted to her mistake that she marked my records wrong. I had been to the hospital a couple of weeks before because of contractions and the nurse noted in my records that I delivered my baby. Off to a great start, which would only be the beginning to our unexpected day. I had to be stuck a few different times because they couldn't find my veins and then my epidural was a NIGHTMARE!! Finally the epidural went in and I eventually became numb. On my way to the operation room where I will soon meet my newest little girl. Sweet Emma was born at 1:18 pm weighing 6 lbs 11oz and her length was 19 inches. She came out barely crying and the nurses worked hard on getting fluid out of her lungs. They wrapped Emma up and Adam got to hold her as I kissed her head. We were then told that she would have to go to the Transition Nursery because she was having trouble breathing. My doctor said she swallowed the pool on the way out and lots of C-Section babies go to Transition. I told Adam to go with her as they wheeled me to recovery. Adam did a great job of multitasking - staying with Emma & making sure she was ok, keeping the family informed, and checking on me & keeping me updated. It was very hard laying in recovery not knowing what was going on with my baby. After I spent my time in recovery they wheeled me to my room. Emma still was in transition and Adam stayed with her. Family and friends were able to view her through a window. Emma was unable to fully breathe on her own so she was placed in an oxygen dome and checked in to the NICU (Neonatal Intensvie Care Unit). This was a very scary time for us. I knew Emma was in God's hands and she was going to be fine. I was just in shock that my baby was in intensvie care. We had planned for Ellie to come visit Baby Sister that evening so Mimi and Papa brought her up to the hospital. Since Emma was not in the room with us Adam & family took Ellie up to the NICU so Ellie could look at her sister through the window. Adam video taped her reaction since I could not be there to see it (this killed me). I could not leave my bed for 12 hours, which seemed like days! Once my time was up Adam wheeled me up to see Emma. It broke my heart to see her hooked up to so many different things!! How could this be happening???? We were unable to hold her because she was in distress but we did talk to her & hold her hand. On our way back to our room for the night Adam noticed a little sign on our door that said "Welcome Little Ones" (they thought we had twins!!), a humorous ending to an amazing but worrisome day.
